About the Authors:

Author: Chang Yung-fa

The current Chairman of the Evergreen Group. Born in 1927, he entered a shipping company after stepping into society as a youth, working and studying simultaneously. Through diligent self-study, he became a marine technician and worked his way up through the ranks of third mate, second mate, chief mate, and ultimately captain. In 1968, he established Evergreen Marine Corporation with a single second-hand cargo vessel. In 1984, he launched an unprecedented two-way round-the-world container service, securement Evergreen Marine's long-standing leadership position among global container shipping lines. To elevate domestic aviation safety and service quality, Chang invested heavily in 1988 to found Taiwan's first private international airline—EVA Air, which officially took flight on July 1, 1991. The Evergreen Group has since evolved into a diversified international enterprise spanning sea, land, and air transport.

While maintaining the stable growth of his business, Chang Yung-fa simultaneously assumed corporate social responsibility. Since establishing the Chang Yung-fa Foundation in 1985, he has quietly promoted charitable, educational, and cultural activities aimed at "Caring for Taiwan, Giving Back to Society" for more than twenty years. From charitable medical assistance, founding the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, and establishing the Evergreen Maritime Museum to providing student financial aid, publishing the Moral Monthly, and assisting disaster victims of domestic and overseas typhoons and earthquakes in rebuilding their homes, he has fully honored an entrepreneur's duty to give back to society and the nation.
