A Love Letter to Life: What Truly Matters When Fighting Illness, Told by a Warm-Hearted Renowned Physician

Synopsis:

What My Patients Taught Me, and What I Want to Tell Them

When facing illness, everyone’s helplessness is the same, and the fear is the same.

The love of those around them can strengthen a patient’s will to live.

When you take that step into treatment and feel the pain is unbearable, please think of the people around you who love you, and do not forget that I am also right there ahead of you.

To me, medicine is not just about technology;

it is, more importantly, one story after another of wholehearted love and devotion!

When I first entered medical school, I had immense aspirations about becoming a doctor.

However, by my fourth and fifth years, I began to feel suffocated by the heavy coursework, and the companions with whom I used to burn the midnight oil together eventually became rivals competing for attending physician positions.

My passion for medicine was chipped away bit by bit just like that.

Yet, along this journey of practicing medicine, I encountered countless patients. Back when I was still completely unknown, for some reason, they were willing to entrust their lives to me.

Some patients kept coming back for eight or nine years, which gradually transformed my mindset toward the doctor-patient relationship.

To me, medicine was no longer just cold numbers and terminology; it began to turn into individual stories—some that made me toss and turn at night, some that brought a knowing smile to my face, and some that moved me to floods of tears.

And I want to share them with you.

May you, like me, find comfort within them.
